I am the Lead Practitioner and Camp Manager at Excel Sports Academy. My original degree was in Sports Coaching and Development before moving on to complete a BSc Hons Sport and Exercise Science then a PGD in Physical Education. I have been teaching for 8 years and have gained experience teaching a variety of age groups and additional support needs pupils. I have also been working at Excel for the last 8 years and have developed strong relationships with the Excel staff and the St Georges School Staff. My main sporting activity was Kayaking where I competed with the British team, I also enjoy Skiing, Mountain Biking, Badminton and Basketball.
I have recently graduated with a degree in Physical Education from Edinburgh University and start as a PE teacher at Musselburgh Grammar School in August. I have coached at Excel for four years, and have coaching experience in badminton. I have represented Scotland as a junior in badminton and have won, as well as being Scottish Universities mixed doubles champion.
Jordan John Flynn
Once graduating from Edinburgh University in 2016, I became a PE teacher in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. This is my second year coaching at Excel, utilising a variety of different national sporting qualifications, and expanding on my previous experience having coached in a leading boys’ summer camp in the USA, both in 2013 and 2014, with kids from all over the world.
I am an ex-international gymnast having competed for England between the ages of twelve and fifteen. I started coaching gymnasts when I was fourteen recovering from an injury and haven’t stopped! Since moving up to Scotland I’ve competed for the university in both gymnastics and rock climbing. I’ve won the Bars and Beam titles at BUCS for gymnastics for the last four years. In my spare time I study architecture, surf and play guitar.
I have just finished my NHC Sports Coaching and Development at Edinburgh College. I am going into HND after summer. My aim is to become a PE teacher with my main sports being dance, which I have done since I was four years old, and hockey, which I also coach outside Excel. I have worked at Excel for two years, this will be my third.
I have just finished school where I played in four First teams for hockey, lacrosse, tennis and squash. I’ve been volunteering with a Rainbow’s (girl scouts five to seven year olds) for the last year and have found I really enjoy working with younger children.
This is my second summer working at Excel. I’m a medical student at Aberdeen University, but am also a level two tennis coach and I’ve been told I’m a bit of a thunderball expert.
I am currently a third year at university studying PE teaching. Prior to university I completed a two year sports coaching degree. My favourite sport is Basketball which I am a level 2 qualified coach for, as well as playing it at university, club and national level. Through basketball I have been given the opportunity to travel to various different countries to compete, a personal highlight for me was being selected to compete at the European championships held in Austria in 2014.
I am a student at Stirling University studying Business Management and Marketing. I have played hockey for over seven years and am currently the Match Secretary for the university club. I have also played rugby and water polo alongside other sports for a few years at club and school levels.
I have a Sports Leader qualification and coach tennis throughout the year, however this is my first summer coaching at Excel. I am also interesting in computing, with an NHC in the subject.
I attended Excel Sports Academy myself for ten years before I started working here last year. It was at Excel where I gained my Level 2 and 4 Sports Leadership and Development qualifications. Throughout the years I have had the opportunity to take part in many different sports both in and out of school such as football, golf, kayaking and basketball, and continue to try new ones out.
I have recently completed my Level 2 Fitness Instructor & Circuits Leader qualification, and from this I am going on to become a personal trainer. I previously attended George Watson’s College where I played various sports, such as hockey, netball and football. I enjoyed playing a wide variety of sports there, and continue to to try out lots of new ones. I was lucky enough to attend Excel, completing the Sports Leader qualification here, and since then I have been coaching for two years.
I am an Upper Sixth student at St George’s School for Girls and curl in an under seventeen’s team, and I also have a brown belt in judo.
I have just completed my second year of Chinese and Film Studies at the University of Hull. In September I will be going to Beijing for my year abroad as part of my course. I have worked at Excel for three years where I am the cameraperson and all-round tech-hand. Each week I take photographs of the children, as well as work with the children and coaches in their teams to make short films which get shown at the end of each Friday, along with a montage of the activities of the week. As well as filmmaking and photography, my hobbies include fencing and archery.
