Welcome to the FAQs page. The following questions have again been asked during the last year, and may cover some queries you may have too.
Q. My children are not very sporty or particularly active, is this the right camp for them?
A. Excel Sports Academy encourages children to participate in all of the sporting activities. Whether an activity is tried for the first time, or a child has little experience, Excel's sports coaches generate great enthusiasm to ensure each session is approached in a fun and exciting way. A range of non-sporting activities means that a balance exists to maintain all interests.
Q. My son is 14, as an older child to the camp, will he be bored?
A. Excel's sports coaches recognise that older children require a different level of engagement, and especially during their least favourite activity! A bigger degree of responsibility and involvement within the organisation of the activity will bring about a better sense of participation.
Q. Having had many years of tennis tuition, will the excel plus Tennis option develop the skills
my daughters currently have?
A. Yes, a training programme has already been developed to meet the needs of children for the Tennis week and will suit those with minimal experience and those with significant skills. Excel's qualified specialised tennis coaches will identify each child's strength and individually bring them on.
Q. Why are the specialised sports for a full week rather than giving parents the option to book on a daily basis?
A. All excel plus activities give each child the opportunity to daily build up and apply their skills each day by taking an intensive programme to deepen their commitment and produce results. Experience has shown that consistent instruction by one of Excel’s specialist sports coaches or one of the qualified ski/climbing/dance instructors, or example, reinforces the friendly, familiar and fun environment in which the children learn.
Q. What if my child is sick and cannot attend?
A. Please call immediately to say your child is sick and not able to attend camp, and please don't send a sick child to camp to be looked after. As a security measure, should a child not arrive by 9.30am the General Manager will call the parent or guardian to confirm the non-arrival of a child expected that day at camp. Participants who cannot attend the camp through injury, illness or for any other reason will not be entitled to any refund or form of compensation. This is a standard condition consistent with similar organisations.
Q. I think my child may have left a favourite sweatshirt at the camp, what happens to lost property?
A. All lost property is laid out on a table in the dining hall. This way, caps, water bottles, jumpers etc that accumulate during the day can be accessed easily by children missing property. On a daily basis children are reminded to check for missing belonging. Items are easily identified if they are marked with a name, but Excel recognises this isn’t always practical. At the end of each week, in the closing speech, the camp manager will draw parents and guardian’s attention to the pile of lost property. Lost property will stay at camp until the end of the holidays, after which all items will go into storage for one week to give everyone an opportunity to claim things before being donated to a local charity shop.
1. Excel-sports reserve the right to exclude or refuse any participant at any time prior to or during the camp. Any additional cost will be at the parent/guardian's expense.
2. All participants are covered by the company insurance policy. Activities undertaken at other sporting venues will also be covered by the relevant organisation. Excel Sports does not accept liability for personal injury howsoever caused, nor for loss or damage to any property belonging to or travelling with a participant. Excel Sports does not accept any responsibility for losses or additional expense incurred due to sickness, weather or any other cause.
3. Excel Sports reserve the right to cancel or change the date of the camps. In the case of cancellation of a camp, Excel Sports will refund the full amount but will not be liable for any further compensation.
4. Cancellations for all bookings must be received at least four weeks before the camp to receive a full refund; likewise, cancellations of less than four weeks will have 20% returned. Cancellations of less than four weeks will have 10% returned. All cancellations must be acknowledged in writing.
5. Participants who cannot attend the full week through injury, illness or for any other reason will not be entitled to any refund or form of compensation.
6. The participants' parent(s)/guardian(s) consent to the use of any photos taken of their child, for the promotion of Excel Sports.
7. Excel's activities programme may be subject to change for reasons of safety, unsuitable weather conditions, or situations beyond Excel's control.
8. When attending camp, it is automatically assumed that consent is given to travel to and from a specialised activity.
9. When attending camp, it is automatically assumed that consent is given for children to participate in their own film-making activities. Parents not wishing their children to participate in the filming must make this known when booking, or children themselves not wishing to participate can inform the camp manager/camp staff whilst at camp. All films are destroyed at the end of the season.
10. Medication required during a visit to excel should be handed in on arrival to the camp manager, together with details of the dosage required and the method for administration.
